NCCCO’s Latest Policy Updates

NCCCO has recently introduced some new policy updates that pertain to written exam retakes, fee changes and more. Some of these changes may not affect you, but, you still need to be aware of them.

Written Exam Retake Policy

NCCCO has implemented an written exam retake policy, effective October 1st, 2019. This policy will require any candidate failing an NCCCO written exam to wait a minimum of four weeks before being eligible to retake the same exam. This policy will ensure greater fairness in testing amongst all NCCCO candidates as it prevents candidates who are retesting from having an unfair advantage on a written exam due to content familiarity.

Exam Fee Restructuring

Effective January 1st, 2020, NCCCO will implement a streamlined fee structure for its certification and recertification exams. The new fee structure features a single fee for each exam, regardless of which certifications candidates currently hold or the candidates’ testing history. As a result of this exam fee restructure, NCCCO will now automatically issue a new certification card every time an individual adds a new certification or recertifies.

Removal of Physical (medical) Requirement

NCCCO has announced plans to remove the eligibility requirement for a physical (medical) evaluation for candidates for its certification exams. The change is effective January 1, 2020, and applies to all NCCCO operator certifications. NCCCO written and practical exam requirements are unaffected by this change. The decision was taken, according to NCCCO CEO, Thom Sicklesteel, because the physical demands placed on a certified crane operator change according to such factors as the type and configuration of the crane and the environment it is working in, facts known only to the employer rather than the certification body.
